Though it does piss me off that I need to have the disc in to play it and it takes a bit longer to verify the disc before launching the game. There wasn't any way around this, since it was a fairly new Starforce version, but that was months ago so maybe it has changed. But it hasn't caused any trouble with anything on my computer.

Quick question about 2 / 3 pin plug [pin spot] [pin plug]

Q: I recently MSI nForce 415 motherboard and case and Enlight. The matter power connector is a 3-pin plug and the board has a 2 pin spot on it. Does anyone know how to solve?
Re:Use a knife to split the three pin plug into two pieces. Then just connect the appropriate wires to the motherboard. However, I do find it weird that the mobo has the two power LED pins right next to eachother when the standard is to have one empty in the middle. Double check that you're looking at everything correctly.

As for the power button, what you're experiencing is completely normal. ATX power supplies turn on instantly but won't turn off unless you hold the power button down (unless you're not in Windows yet). Just push the button and hold it down for like 4 seconds and the computer will turn off.

why does my monitor squealing like a virgin school girl? [high pitch sound] [proview]

Q: I have a Proview. no idea what the model number. but recently it starts with this high pitched sound once in a while. If I turn off the monitor, the high pitch noise to go away. when I turn it on again, sometimes it starts to beep, and sometimes not. Now, it squeaks no matter how much time I turn it off and on. I already tried degaussing. does not help. just now, I tried to change the refresh rate and it worked like a charm. only problem is that not only squeak at 60 Hz. blah. my monitor is raped from age and should be in a nursing home?

Run it in spec until you find a replacement you like. Even a low refresh-rate monitor in spec (or lower if you've pushed it excessively) is better than looking at a blank black space when shopping for a new one.

Which is the best “monitor the install program for WinXP?! [conflicts] [job]

Q: Hi,

Can anybody recommend a good program to install monitor for WinXP?! I want one that you can perform the installation, close it, and run it after installing a comparison, not one that automatically does everything and continues to run during the installation process of the program, because this conflict could give I think. What is the best (free?) Program to install winxp to monitor the work completely and correctly? Does!

Re:I am still using an older version of Windows right now and always used a program install monitor to make sure I could make a clean unintall when necessary. Is it perhaps so that with WinXP you don't need such a program anymore, like does WinXP remove program *completely* when uninstalling or will you still need a good program monitor in order to be sure nothing is left on your system when you uninstall something. The one I use for my older OS also made logs of installations, which was usefull to see what really happenend on your system when you install some program. Does WinXP perhaps do all this now or is it still a good idea to use an install monitor program?! Too bad they charge for InCtrl5, aren't there any other good ones which are free?!!

Q: I have a Compaq 1995 with SCSI HD drive and a new 2.53 and WIN 95 Compaq Presario with XP Home Edition. I have about 100 MS Word documents that I want from my old computer over to the new. The old computer has no USB ports or CD-R or a Zip drive. Any ideas?

Re:Why not just use a floppy disk for this? For only about 100 MS word docs, it wouldn't require very many disks unless you've got some very large word docs. If the new computer does not have a floppy drive, copy your word docs to floppy disks, remove the floppy drive from your old computer and install it in the new one, at least temporarily, to get your files transferred. Or, buy a floppy drive for the new comp. You can get them for about $10, I believe.

does anyone know if it possible to easily see if you have an Intel Speedstep CPU usage? Would msinfo32 list of applications such as, for example? Or Intels CPUID program? Or BIOS? Basically I do not think my laptop SpeedStep a P4 in it, and the manufacturer claims it does, so I try to find out whether it is a way other.

Re:If you can establish that it's a P4-M that will denote speedstep if it's a desktop version…no speedstep…….also the mobiles evidently do not come with a IHS so physically examining the CPU is most helpful.

Also, I couldn't match all of the details to any one processor on Intel's website – for instance, the 512k of L2 cache. Should CPUID actually say somewhere that it is or isn't a speedstep processor?
