why does my monitor squealing like a virgin school girl? [high pitch sound] [proview]

Q: I have a . no idea what the model number. but recently it starts with this high pitched sound once in a while. If I turn off the monitor, the high pitch noise to go away. when I turn it on again, sometimes it starts to beep, and sometimes not. Now, it squeaks no matter how much time I turn it off and on. I already tried degaussing. does not help. just now, I tried to change the refresh rate and it worked like a charm. only problem is that not only squeak at 60 Hz. blah. my monitor is raped from age and should be in a nursing home?

I have a 17" Samtron 76V monitor running 85hz. Never had that flicker problem or anything yet. I seen in your system specs that you got the 75V model. Maybe that was a common problem with that model number.

I have used the $hit out of that monitor! I would recommend it to anyone! It has been moved twice (one time kind of violently thanks to my wonderful movers :D isgust;), and still had no problems! But for the $120 I paid 3 years ago, it was one of the best peices of hardware I ever bought!
Re:like a virgin school girl

They are a dying species, very rare…..;)

As for the monitor, its probably on its way out. If its out of warranty then its not worth it to get it fixed.

Re:I dunno, I kinda like the way virgin schoolgirls squeal…
Re:I think it's the magnetic field produced by the yoke. A piece of sheetmetal inside probably got unglued and not acts like a speaker. You might be able to glue it back or put some dampening on the sheet metal if you could find it. Might be dangerous with the high voltage.

stop hiding virgin school girls in your monitor then.

Re:my monitor does that every so often, it is 5 years old, has been doing for atleast 4 years and works like a charm, i use it daily @ 1024×768x85Hz. i usually push on it and it will stop. some of my tvs do that also, again if i push on them, they will stop…. is this bad?
Re:It's the high voltage regulator. Not worth to fix.

Re:had a sony do that. no way to fix it easily. i remember one sony tech on the phone sound like he had heard it all before.. bah.

toss it:P
Re:Any suggestions?

Run it in spec until you find a replacement you like. Even a low refresh-rate monitor in spec (or lower if you've pushed it excessively) is better than looking at a blank black space when shopping for a new one.
Re:my current monitor is 19". at 85hz it flickers like crazy. stupid monitor. the lower the hz, the less flickering but it sucks to look at it though. if i'm gonna dump this thing, i'm gonna get another 19" or 21". any suggestions?

Yeah it sounds like your monitor is on its way out. It should work OK with 60hz, but doesn't that just kill your eyes? I had a Samtron 17'' that would flicker at anything over 60hz. Now it is hooked up to my spare box, running at 60hz, about 3 months after the problem happened. So you still have some time. But if you need recommendations for a new monitor, I bought the HP Pavilion MX70 17'' for $80 after a $50 MIR at BestBuy about a month ago. I have had 0 problems with it, and the picture is unbelieveable compared to my old monitor (probably because the HP monitor is flat-screen).
