How bad is STARFORCE copy? [skipping games] [copy protection]

Q: Im thinking of picking up the Cold War for $ 10, but a review also mentions that they used and it causes many problems as we heard a lot.

They said update the drivers Starcatcher allowed the game run.

Before I get it and install it, how bad are the problems, it is worth Skip games, other than as a protest?
Best Answer: let me coin a new vocabulary that is to be included in every dictionary, thesaurus, word list, scrabble helper, etc.

controlware: a software that is either purposely or not, interfere with user's control over a machine

By this definition, all virus, spyware, adware, malware, and some of the stupidest copy-protection software, especially StarForce and Sony's DRM, is categorized as controlware
Re:I own one game that uses it: TOCA Race Driver 3. Absolutely no problems with it. Though it does piss me off that I need to have the disc in to play it and it takes a bit longer to verify the disc before launching the game. There wasn't any way around this, since it was a fairly new Starforce version, but that was months ago so maybe it has changed. But it hasn't caused any trouble with anything on my computer.

Darn, I saw that Tom Clancy's Chaos Theory uses it too.

Np problems yet here. They offer a driver removal tool, which I'll use once I've run through the game again.

Re:I never had a problem with it personally.

But if you google starforce and read some of the other problems it caused people it might have you reconsider.
Re:Well…

It can make your computer restart when you start up a game… :D

But it can really fudge up your comp!
